FOUNDERS
The Icarus Foundation was conceived in February 2007 by six individuals with extensive experience in both tourism and environment who wished to ensure a viable tourism sector (Anna Pollock, Joe Kelly, Rachel Dodds, Peter Williams, Pat Corbett and Sonya Graci). Our current board is comprised of highly skilled individuals who also wish to ensure the sustainability of this sector. Our bios may be found here.
The Icarus Foundation will focus on activities that:
1. Help tourism suppliers reduce their greenhouse emissions and dependency on fossil fuels
2. Encourage and enable excess greenhouse gas emissions to be captured and stored
3. Offset greenhouse gas emissions through innovative investments in environmentally friendly programs
4. Demonstrate to visitors that Canadian tourism suppliers care about their environment
OUR MISSION
To be the catalyst that helps Canada become a climate friendly tourism destination.
GOALS

2. To educate destinations, industry associations, tourism suppliers and visitors about the overall contribution made by tourism to global warming and help reduce their individual and collective contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and use of fossil fuels
3. To advocate the vision of Canada as a genuine “carbon neutral” travel destination
4. To help the Canadian tourism industry adapt to the impact of climate change on its operations
5. To identify and promote examples of best practice within the tourism sector in Canada and communicate positive stories to visitors
6. To become a recognized authority on all matters directly related to tourism and its contribution to climate change
7. To act as a focal point and advocate for Canada to become a carbon neutral tourism destination
